Sales of older systems follow different rules. Sales from the retail version of the OS stops one year after the new version was released, while the OEM version sold quit after 2 years. This means that if Windows 8 out as planned in late October, the stores can still sell it until October 2013 while computer makers can sell their products with Windows 7 on it until October 2014.
Microsoft explained that additional support for Windows Vista and 7 is to provide a more consistent range of support to customers, OEMs, businesses and home users.
